I don't want to offend anyone when I say - NIPPON WAS THE BEST CON EVER!!!     Japan has great food, polite residents anxious to help tourists, and it's the cleanest country I've ever seen.

I'm going to do a few posts over the next couple weeks to cover the Con, but here is a quick look at just a few of the many things that made this a great Con:

We had a full hour, one on one, with George Takei:

There's was actually a Club of Japanese motorcyclist sci-fi fans at the Con:

Steve was asked to Moderate a WorldCon panel:

Good friends, good times:

Invaded by aliens ?!!?  No, it's just Daniel:

If you had half as good a time as I had then you had a great convention too.

Stay tuned over the next couple weeks and I'll tell you how we came to spend time with George Takei, the folks from Traife Buffet and our new motorcycle brothers from Tokyo.

Wow, my head really got around, didn't it?

Wu's amazing mobile head

I have seen this "carrying Frank Wu's head around" thing on several LJs, and I still don't get it. This just won't parse until I encounter an illustrative pic. (Was it a picture of his head? A papier-maché sculpture? A generic Pez topper that had been arbitrarily labeled "Frank Wu's head"?)

Jeez, I love the picture where it looks like you're interviewing George Takei while I take a nap.

Otherwise: Yep, had a terrific time! Other high points: a nice long mellow chat with Gavin about the small-press life; carrying Frank's head around during the late-night shift on Saturday and explaining to strangers that "Frank Wu Loves You"; helping Ellen Kushner hold up the wall at the Heinlein Society party; realizing that I actually had almost a full house at the 10am kaffeeklatsche, thanks to my awesome new caffeinated con friends; 3D-meeting some cool folks from LJ; hearing Ken Brady's exciting account of how any American science fiction writer can become Neil Gaiman simply by traveling to China; handing out Weird Tales and Earthling stickers to eager stickerees; and, of course, the ongoing father/son culinary tour of the Yokohama convention district.

Denver, you've got a high bar to reach.

No kidding that was an awesome con!

Definitely in my top two cons evar- and (I think) I am into the three figures.

Damn glad to meet and hang out with you and Stephen. Looking forward to the next time... wherever that is!

Just a matter of time - - - maybe World Fantasy? maybe Denvention? maybe before if you get to US or I get to NZ.

Yeah - most fun I've had at a Con, ever. Had a great time with you and Kelly (and the giant head).

Absolutely the best con ever. I don't think most people will ever realised what they missed out on, which is probably for the best, eh? ;)

Its a bit dark, sadly, but I love how bright the ferris wheel is behind us in the dinner picture. Thanks again for a wonderful time!

Good, bad, or indifferent?

I quite enjoyed the con (as my second Worldcon), except I'm trying to figure out how it is that I attended only 10 functions out of 5 days. I'm still tallying. I think my borderline-insane plan to patronize 5 different hotels on 5 nights, all of them a freakishly long hike away (could Queen's East get any longer?) had some small influence on this.

[livejournal.com profile] jackwilliambell has a less enthusiastic rating (http://jackwilliambell.livejournal.com/193630.html?view=297310) for the con over on his LJ. It's linked from (http://community.livejournal.com/nippon2007/72373.html) the N7 LJ community as a call for additional reviews and reports.
